The Discount Wedding Gowns Really Worth The Price?

November 5th, 2009 5:08 am

A bride asked me recently what the trap was with buying discounted wedding gowns online. “It all sounds too good to be true” were her statement. At first I was surprised that she thought there was a catch then I realised that having been in the business for a long time I was taking my own knowledge for granted. Once I told her about the pricing process she gave me a rye smile and uttered “So I really can get a bargain online without compromising on quality”. Talking to her rang a bell to me that buying a wedding dress is, for most brides, a fresh experience and probably there are a lot more more brides who just required to be given a bit of insider knowledge to realise the fantastic price savings they can make on the internet. Here is a general review of how the High Street puts a price their dresses.

The maker creates the dresses usually in a country where labour salaries are very low; China, India etc. They market the dresses to wholesalers in the USA Europe or Australia who then put their label on the gowns. every Label wholesaler, you remember the names, then increae the cost and distribute the dresses to their selected high street outlets with suggested retail price rules. They never wish to make competition among their outlets so price cutting is frond upon.

The High Street then marks up the price to the recommended retail price to cover their costs and earn a profit. There is nothing erroneous with any of that; it’s the method business works. Therefore how come online sellers can mark down their wedding dresses very much?

There are two areas where online distributors can make you huge discounts. Primarily they may get rid of the middleman and buy straight from the maker; the disadvantage to this is that you don’t get a brand to boast about. The next saving comes from the reality that online overheads are very low as with running and staffing a high end outlet.

There is another and not quite so evident saving which is made from shipping and handling costs. Online dresses may only be transported one time from the maker staright to your home as compared to a High end gown is transported two or three times before you receive it.
