How To Get Started With Yoga

Wednesday, January 27th, 2010

For the past several years I’ve practiced yoga regularly. My mind has become crystal clear, my body is tone, I’m flexible, and feel better than ever. For me it was not easy to get started, so I’d like to share some tips to help you get over the initial hump.

If you’ve begun practicing yoga or have only done it a few times, but cant find the motivation to keep going, these helpful tips might bring you that feel-good feeling that motivates you to keep coming back for more. Yoga is such a great practice and I guarantee that if you keep with it and do it a minimum of once a week, within a month you’ll feel more energetic, happier, and your mind will be crystal clear. Once you get over the initial hurdles, you’ll start to feel the true benefits of a limber and flexible body and the feeling of a clear mind.

Straps help your to get started A Yoga Strap really helps you stretch further by providing extra reach where a beginner would normally not have any. Get a strap and it will quickly help you stretch to those toes! Before long you wont need it anymore.

Focus on your breath Being conscious about your breathing during your yoga practice is critical to a good practice. By focusing on your breath, your mind stays focused instead of wondering off to other things. Use your deep breath to help you stretch deeper into your poses. Breathing in should pull you back, as you breath out, slowly bend or twist deeper into your pose.

Clear your mind During the end of your stretches, spend lots of time relaxing your body and free your mind. Doing this will give you the biggest rewards. Focus on thinking about nothing and just observe the benefits that you’re feeling from the stretches you just did. I guarantee you that doing this for at least 15 minutes will leave you feeling better than ever.

Use a thick yoga mat Thick yoga mats provide the cushion you need to get started…it’s also helpful to get a skidless yoga mat as well so that you’re not slipping off the mat.

I hope this finds you well and inspires you to get going with a regular yoga routine. Your mind and your body will thank you!

If you need help picking out some yoga accessories to get started, I would suggest a thick yoga mat and yoga mat bag.

Gurus, Standing Lotuses, and Yoga

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

Graduating from the fringes of fitness, yoga has become the king of the exercise world. Where once claiming to practice yoga may have gotten you laughed out of the local YWCA, now, you would be hard-pressed to find a fitness program that does not feature some form of yoga. Whether it’s Hatha or Bindu or Kriya, the hunger for yoga has not shown any signs of abating.

To be sure, free weights and treadmills and stair climbers are as ubiquitous as ever, but yoga still has an appeal that Western fitness regimens can’t muster. Though Pilates has found its niche, it seems to be relegated to niche-dom for the foreseeable future. Unlike Pilates, yoga does not require mastery of any complex machinery.

More than the mere physical workout, yoga has a great deal of peripheral benefits. These include a calmer demeanor, better mental focus, and an unbridled sense of well-being. The only requirements for a successful yoga session are enough space, a qualified instructor (or guru if you’re lucky) and some comfortable yoga clothes. The rest is breathing, stretching, holding, and sweating.

Yes, the grunting and groaning of the free weight room still have an appeal. If increasing muscle size is crucial, nothing compares to weight lifting. But, it is a common misconception to think that yoga training does not cultivate strength. In fact, it builds a tremendous amount of strength. Few weight lifters can perform a handstand or hold themselves in a standing lotus position for more than five minutes.

The inner strength and well-being of yoga practitioners knows no bounds. Given the fact that there are dozens of styles of yoga means no one person can ever exhaust the practice of yoga. The best instructors, it should be noted, have been certified by accredited worldwide yoga organizations and respected gurus. Be wary of any fly-by-night gurus who are slow to show you their certification.

The optimal yoga session means you need the optimal kind of yoga clothes to help you move as you need to and feel better than you thought possible.

Many of these traditional shiatsu techniques have been replicated in massage chairs. There are robotic fingers that provide thumb like pressure. These can use firm or gentle pressure. They are also programmed to provide kneading to loosen muscles and vibration to enhance blood circulation.

Shiatsu is the traditional massage of Japan. The Japanese originated massage chairs and first integrated shiatsu. However, these robotic massage chairs do have advantages over massage therapists. You can use them anytime and they do not get exhausted. About Tai Chi Techniques and Training

Saturday, December 19th, 2009

Derived from the Taiji symbol which, in the Western areas is known as the yin and yang, Tai Chi was said to be the practice that preserved the oldest schools of learning which study the receptive and active principles.

Core training has two features primarily: the solo form, which emphasizes slow sequence of movements maintaining a straight and firm spine, range of motion and fine abdominal breathing; and the Push Hands which involve training of the principles of movement in a more practical and convenient way.

As the name implies, the solo form of Tai Chi, requires only one person to go with the flow of motion. With this form, you will go through a natural and complete range of motion while keeping your balance. If taken into regular practice, the solo form of Tai Chi can retain posture, promotes flexibility of the joints and muscles, and encourages proper circulation from any point of your body. The solo form is actually the basic of all forms. It is your first step to familiarize some of the important martial arts application sequences which you will face in the different forms.

Major styles of traditional Tai Chi have forms that somewhat differ from the others in its presentation. Some differ in the wave of the hands, in the position of the legs, the reaction of the body and the pace of the movement. But these things don’t matter at all because what is important to Tai Chi practice is that it benefits not just your body but your mind as well. And besides, there are still many similarities coming from the point of their common origin that are obvious enough to recognize, anyway.

Solo forms, weapons and empty-hands are the basics in learning just about any form of martial arts application. This is in preparation for students for their self-defense training.

Tai Chi’s Philosophy in training tells that if one becomes as hard as his opponent during a fight whether attending or resisting it, the clash will inevitably create physical injuries to both sides. A fight like this is greatly compared to fighting brutes, according to the Tai Chi theory - an attitude despised by Tai Chi discipline.

Unlike in other martial arts where force is encourage to be applied to some extent, in Tai Chi, students are taught to face battle with delicate movements and gentleness, following every attacking motion and in the end, tiring their opponent. This is even done while remaining at a close contact. This is the principle wherein the yin and yang is applied - the main goal of training Tai Chi.

Aside from that, Tai Chi schools also focus their attention on how the energy of a striking person affects his opponent. For example, the palm can strike physically looking the same and performing the same but has a different and dramatic effect on the target.

With your palm you can push a person forward or backward, do it in such a way that the opponents are lifted vertically from the ground, this way their center of gravity will be shaken and eventually fall.

After which, this technique can cease the striking force within the body of the person and resulting to a traumatic internal damage.

Finally! The whole unbiased truth about Tai Chi exercises exposed. You owe it to yourself to visit Tai Chi in Los Angeles and get the facts today.
